Finding Oz in Manhattan

The Wizard of Oz has been my favorite movie since I can remember. I am totally one of those girls who dressed up as Dorothy Gale for Halloween and pressed "rewind" and "play" so many times that it's a wonder the VHS tape didn't completely explode. I've seen the movie and read the book too many times to count, and I know I am just one of millions touched by this film and the world created by L. Frank Baum.

I was really excited to learn through the Pints 'n Purls Knitting Group that Bryant Park was hosting an outdoor screening of The Wizard of Oz as part of the HBO Summer Film Festival. What better opportunity to take some inspiration from the great Judy herself and sport rosy cheeks, red lips and (my version of) ruby slippers?

In high school and college, I wrote essays on Baum's work and Dorothy's journey and the true meaning of "home." I was always fascinated by the concept of home, and I felt alone in not knowing what that was or what it meant for me. I think I've finally realized that everyone feels this way in some capacity and searches for this place or idea called home. I realize now that home is what you make of it.

Right now, our home is New York, and that's exactly where I want to be.
